Luz Que Viaja
Last century ... Yvonne and I lived close to the shores of the Canadian side of Lake Huron ... and the little town where we lived was noted for its sunsets ... I think it was even written up in National Geographic for this unique feature .. the sunsets all thanks to our friends on the other side of the lake continuously emitting tons of greenhouse gases and associated metal contaminants to the atmosphere ... I photographed a few of those sunsets and many since ... in Europe .. the US .. Asia and other parts of Canada ... but the sunsets here in Melaque ... and possibly all along the Pacific Coast of Mexico ... rival any I have seen.
There is also a location here that has the best 'light' I have seen at sunset .. and that is the Albatros bar on the beach .. conveniently located not too far away from away from our apartment I might add .. this is the kind of light film directors dream of .. as well as photographers .. and anyone chasing the 'light fantastic'.
There are two natural phenomenon .. imho .. that make the sunsets here so spectacular ... the first is the particulate matter in the air that gives the uncloudy sky almost a full spectrum of visible light ... the air becomes almost a holographic prism and you have a unique mix of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet ... constantly changing as the sun sets ... the second is the constant pounding of the surf on the beach here and the unique bay surrounded 270 degrees by both arms of land jutting out and Melaque itself and the hills behind ... this sets up the perfect localized cloud formation system ... clouds that are not dense but almost ephemeral that capture light like a sponge captures water ... clouds formed from thousands of gallons of water everyday being entrained in the air as an aerosol from the constant pounding of the surf ... you can feel the spray standing 20 feet away from the water's edge ...
Combine this with higher more dense cloud cover at the right elevation and sunsets become epic ... as the light hits the top of the lighter clouds below .. reflecting off the higher dense cloud .. you also have the sunset lighting up the underside of the lighter cloud ... maybe rightly called fog ... and this creates an opportunity for some simply spectacular photographs ...
You can see a few here that I have taken over the past 52 days with my Pixel 2 phone... any photos that are not just of the sunset were taken from the Albatros ... I hope you agree the sunsets here and the 'sunset light' are as I describe ...
