Calle Inteligente
Anybody who knows me well .. will know that I have had a lifelong love of popular music ... and by that I guess I mean The Beatles ... The British Invasion .. The California Sound ... Muscle Shoals .. Criterion Studios ... Motown .. STAX .. .Philly soul .. Columbia New York .. Capitol in LA ... San Francisco psychedelia ... and on and on ..
So it with interest that I listen to the music selection from the grocery store across the street ... all from cell phones broadcasting via bluetooth to a gigantic speaker ... the three biggest North American favorites are .. Pink Floyd (via the UK) ... Creedence ... and Michael Jackson ... Pink Floyd is the hardest one to understand because it is not beat based .. not dance music .. but what I guess would be called shoegaze or trance today ...
But ... the most fascinating thing for me is the Spanish artists that they play and what I lock onto as interesting ... I have a Pixel 2 phone .. and it recognizes everything they are playing ... so I can google the artists of interest and research thema bit ... so what follows is a little taste of what I find of interest of what they play as they consume copious quantities of cerveza after the sun goes down ... and I list them not in any order ...
Nicolas Jaar ... based in New York .. Chilean American ... the music reminds me of Oldfield and Tubular Bells .. .in the sense that it is well conceived and performed and immediately interesting ... not what I expected for music to drink beer beer by ... they obviously have damn good taste across the street ...
Enrique Bunbury ... Spanish and very well known in Europe and anywhere Spanish i spoken .. a mixture of hard rock and pop in my estimation ... great melodies and vocals ... the song they played that really caught my ear was El Club De Los Imposibles .. give it a listen ...
Grupo Laberinto ... the most traditional of what they listen to .. and very interesting ... their genre is called technobanda ... a fusion of acoustic music the way it was played 100 years ago merged with a modern electric band ... the horns sound almost eastern in their timbre and arrangement .. this is a popular selection across the street ... El Transformer Y La Cobra ...
There are lots more that they play but this is what has risen to the top so far ... I am sure there is more to come .. dance to to the music ...
