Melaque Malarkey

Anybody who knows me well .. will know that I have had a lifelong love of popular music ... and by that I guess I mean The Beatles ... The British Invasion .. The California Sound ... Muscle Shoals .. Criterion Studios ... Motown .. STAX .. .Philly soul .. Columbia New York .. Capitol in LA ... San Francisco psychedelia ... and on and on .. So it with interest that I listen to the music selection from the grocery store across the street ... all from cell phones broadcasting via bluetooth to a gigantic speaker ... the three biggest North American favorites are .. Pink Floyd (via the UK) ... Creedence ... and Michael Jackson ... Pink Floyd is the hardest one to understand because it is not beat based .. not dance music .. but what I guess would be called shoegaze or trance today ...  But ... the most fascinating thing for me is the Spanish artists that they play and what I lock onto as interesting ... I have a Pixel 2 phone .. and it recognizes everything they are playing ... so I ca...

Last century ... Yvonne and I lived close to the shores of the Canadian side of Lake Huron ... and the little town where we lived was noted for its sunsets ... I think it was even written up in National Geographic for this unique feature .. the sunsets all thanks to our friends on the other side of the lake continuously emitting tons of greenhouse gases and associated metal contaminants to the atmosphere ... I photographed a few of those sunsets and many since ... in Europe .. the US .. Asia and other parts of Canada ... but the sunsets here in Melaque ... and possibly all along the Pacific Coast of Mexico ... rival any I have seen. There is also a location here that has the best 'light' I have seen at sunset .. and that is the Albatros bar on the beach .. conveniently located not too far away from away from our apartment I might add .. this is the kind of light film directors dream of .. as well as photographers .. and anyone chasing the 'light fantastic'. One of the things I find most fascinating about Melaque .. (and I am going to use this name to review to the entire town) .. is it's topography ... in the photo I took of a poster I have included here ... you can see that the town is crescent shaped ... and bounded by rolling hills that rise quickly to a plain behind them ... the small bay in front of the town is also crescent shaped and equally bounded by two arms of rock that seem to try to enfold it .. almost like the bay was formed by a meteor strike at some point ... and the drop off at the shore is steep and deep ... suggesting that possibility even more ... The town is finite because of this .. as is the beach .. and therefore it is a place you can get to 'know' ... it is not a collection of various clans and groups .. it is one town .. one language .. one culture (essentially) .. and I find that comforting.  The roads in the town seem to be of various construction .. and I am not sure why that is ... in the picture ...

Yvonne and I first traveled to this area of Mexico earlier last year .. on the 31 January 2020 .. and ended up leaving early on 16 March 2020, because of the Covid-19 virus ... so the decision to return here on the 7 December 2020 was not taken lightly ... Yvonne and I followed all protocols while traveling.. as did all the airlines .. and even though we traveled separately .. we both arrived virus free .. and we continue to follow all protocols daily ...
